Rikard Azelius has broad experience in business law matters such as corporate and contract law. Rikard also works with all types of EU and competition law issues, including state aid and regulatory issues in connection with transactions. He assists clients in matters before the European Commission, the Swedish Competition Authority and the courts.
Rikard has extensive experience from a number of industries such as trade, shipping, infrastructure, energy and more.

Selected assignments

  • Assisted in connection with competition notifications regarding Nordion Energi's acquisition of Falbygdens Energi AB and Swedegas to the Swedish Competition Authority.
  • Assisted ForSea in connection with complaints against Sweden regarding the reintroduction of border controls and Sweden's failure to fulfill its obligations under the EU Treaty.
  • Assisted ForSea in applying for INEA support for the electrification (engines and batteries) of its ferries.
  • Assisted ForSea in connection with the State aid complaint to the European Commission and the appeal to the EU General Court in the State aid dispute concerning the Öresund Bridge Consortium (the fixed link across the Öresund).
  • Advised client in connection with the sale of the ForSea group to Seabridge BidCo AB, a wholly owned subsidiary of Molslinjen A/S, which is ultimately owned by EQT.
    - Advised 1Vision Biogas AB, a company controlled by Aneo, HitecVision and St1, which made a public offer to the shareholders of Biokraft International AB under the mandatory bid rules.
  • Advised client on EU law and state aid aspects of the Swedish government's proposal to manage the costs of connecting offshore wind farms to the electricity grid.
  • Assisted Swedegas AB and Weum Gas AB in cases before the Administrative Court against the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate regarding revenue frameworks.
  • Member of the Board of Primrock Holding AB, which provides balance and capacity services from a decentralized energy storage system.
  • Board member of Melitta Nordic AB and Melitta Nordic AS (Norway) which provides coffee products.
